Why do these images break?

Why do these 2 images (generated with what’s essentially the same code) break on different browsers?

The first one displays a broken image in Chrome and Safari, but displays fine in Firefox. The second one displays fine in Chrome, but broken in Safari and Firefox. I’m guessing that it has something to do with the url, but I’ve tried every permutation of relative and absolute, including src=”../../Content/thumb_01.png” which has worked fine for years. I also tried other browsers (Opera and IE9), and I got the same results. I can’t find any other browsers that will display this correctly (I tried IE8 in emulation mode and it also displays a broken image).
It’s a very minor issue
